Birdwatching III

Bluer than sapphire
Singing from a budding tree
Indigo bunting.

Bursting on the tongue
Juicy purple amethysts
A stem of black grapes.

A vast silver pearl
Accented with diamond stars
Moon at apogee.

Ancient tree’s relic
Frozen sunlight, captive fire,
Brighter than diamond.

Pomegranate III

One unripe white seed
In the pomegranate’s trove
Quartz among garnets.

Cat II

Ivory statue
Slowly blinks its sapphire eyes
A Siamese cat.

Night takes off her jewels
Bequeaths her bright pearls to dawn
Strung on spider silk.
