Galaxies of dust
Swim through a shaft of sunlight
The attic window.

Topsy-turvy

Sudden reflections
In a puddle on the road
Birds fly underfoot.

Armored

Beautiful grotesque
Ants like glittering chain mail
On a chicken bone.

Stalk

White marble column
Rising above the marsh grass
The egret’s long neck.

Archaeology

Gray cuneiform
Pigeon tracks in wet concrete
Urban fossil bed.

Rise and Shine

Pale watery sun
A faint glow behind the clouds
Blinking groggily.

Sobriety Date II

Sober for five years
I have got my marbles back…
Now to play with them.

Based on the old AA saying, “It takes five years to get back your marbles, and ten years to learn to play with them again.”
