October Sky

Low afternoon sun
Lazing in an auburn haze
Henna tints the hills.

Yellow candlesticks
Illuminate the hillside
Mullein in bloom.

Sic transit gloria mundi

Proud mountains of snow
Dwindle to hills, then valleys

Scenic overlook
Mountains fade into mountains
Rippled like the sea.

Cold Night

Pallid winter moon
Rises from the snowy hills
Silver shadows fall.

Mona Lisa

Mona Lisa’s smile
Her serene gaze dissipates
The twisted distance.

Written for Bookstains Poetry Challenge:
Mona Lisa’s Smile

Teeth of a cascade
Comb the mountain’s long dark hair
Rippling waterfall.
