Last day of winter
Dark clouds weave the season’s shroud
Mourning raindrops fall.

January thaw
A thick line of dark gray clouds
Recedes like the tide.

The first flakes of snow
Stitched on a gray quilt of sky
Gulls soar silently.

The Kiss

Foggy autumn dawn
Clouds descending from the sky
To caress the earth.

Cirrus-spangled sky
Clouds carved into ice sculptures
By the autumn wind.

After Sei Shonagan

Cloudless, cold morning
Crows in threes and fours and twos
Crack the crystal sky.

A trembling droplet
Reflects an inverted world
Silver morning sky.
