200th Post

Fall, winter, now spring
Leaves and snow and cherry blooms
Grace my syllables.

Jongleur

Droplets slide down stems
Plash and splash from twig to twig
Leaflets juggle rain.

For J.

Rosebush

Leaf buds on roses
As lovely a sight in March
As flowers in June.

Thaw III

Morning has broken:
Broken the earth with green shoots
Broken ice with warmth.

Northern Exposure

Another long drive
Back north into the winter
Trees shed veils of green.

Kale

Green and purple leaves
Whorled into a labyrinth
Ornamental kale.

Treasured

The wind combs the grass
Tosses the last leaves aside
Seeking fall’s lost gold.

Autumn Rain

Flocks of fallen leaves
Huddle in the wet gutter
Raked up by the rain.

Illumination

Each suburban lawn
A page in fall’s manuscript
Burnished with gold leaves.

Dew

Chilly autumn dew
each hawthorn leaf bejeweled
with pavé diamonds.
