Rite of Spring II

Sacrificial dance
Downy snowflakes whirl and fall,
Kiss the earth – and melt.

As the World Turns

Vernal equinox
Though the wind is bitter cold
Hope – spring’s eternal.

Out Like a Lion

Wet snow, icy rain -
Winter’s weather quota filled
Two days before spring.

Stolid

Rainy winter day
Geese stand like statues of geese
On the sodden lawn.

Ephemeral

Flurrying snowflakes
Swarm over a frozen stream
Like summer midges.

Inception

The first flakes of snow
Stitched on a gray quilt of sky
Gulls soar silently.

Futility

Bitter cold morning
The rays of the rising sun
Bring light but no warmth.

Alchemy II

A light sheen of frost
Turns dull yellow winter grass
Into sparkling gold.

Fashion Sense

Scornful teenager
Mock my furry winter hat;
You’re not cool…you’re cold!

Recycling Day

Ice on the sidewalks
A discarded Christmas tree
Shelters the sparrows.
