A Haiku Each Day

Sixty-two hundred and five Syllables a year.

Archive for Human Affairs (Jinji)

Flirt

Layers of pink tulle
Double-flowering cherries
Flounce their underskirts.

Spring Song

Ersatz harbingers
Starlings imitate robins
Over city streets.

Anew

Urban detritus
Heaped in a small garden plot
Still – white crocuses.

Sobriety Date III

One day at a time
Turns to one week, then one month
And, today, six years.

Rite of Spring II

Sacrificial dance
Downy snowflakes whirl and fall,
Kiss the earth – and melt.

Exequies

Last day of winter
Dark clouds weave the season’s shroud
Mourning raindrops fall.

Up in the Air

First warm day of spring
Charcoal smoke and soccer balls
Float over the park.

Stille Nacht II

Street lights cast their glow
Through the deep winter twilight
Silent snow sifts by.

Melt

Heaps of driveway salt
Driven into gritty drifts
Deeper than the snow.

Bluster

Gusty winter day
Unlatched storm doors slam open
Flailing in the wind.
