A Haiku Each Day

Sixty-two hundred and five Syllables a year.

Archive for March, 2011

Alarum

The neighbor’s dog barks
His protective hackles raised
The postman cometh.

Anticipation

The baker’s shopboy
Sweeps crumbs into the alley
What bright-eyed pigeons!

Orchestra

Daffodil trumpets
Bluebells and fern fiddleheads
Symphony of spring.

Late March

Bright, cold, windy day
Air crisp as an icicle
Out like a lion!

Stirrings

Hives begin to buzz
Anthills rise from sidewalk cracks
Cities wake for spring.

Flora

A flower’s embrace:
Sepals clasping petals close
Outwaiting the cold.

Anniversary

Sober for four years:
Fourteen-hundred sixty days
One day at a time.

Cold Morning IV

Cold day in late March
Snowflakes mingle with light rain
Indian winter.

Lakeside

Two geese flying low
Descend toward their reflections
Evening approaches.

Night Sounds

Ghost sounds in the house -
Scratchings, squeakings, scamperings -
Mice between the walls.
