A Haiku Each Day

Sixty-two hundred and five Syllables a year.

Fog II

Gray winter morning
Pine trees loom out of the mist
Beyond them – nothing.

Northern Exposure

Another long drive
Back north into the winter
Trees shed veils of green.

Southern Exposure

On a long drive south
The earth sheds a coat of snow
Every hundred miles.

Precipitation

Warm rain’s percussion
Wind whistling through power lines
Season change’s song.

Sic transit gloria mundi

Proud mountains of snow
Dwindle to hills, then valleys
Finally…puddles.

Superstition

Cold winter evening
A man lights a cigarette
To make the bus come.

This actually “works” surprisingly often…

Fashion Week

Turquoise, peach and mauve
The sky tries on spring colors
Pale winter sunset.

J’accuse

Sunset-cast shadows
Point long fingers to the east
Implicating night.

Backpost II, or, Why I Didn’t Post This Weekend

A blue screen of death
Vast as a tropical sea…
No haiku today.

I wrote this haiku on 2/19/2011 but, due to aforementioned BSOD, couldn’t post it then…

Glimpse

Black specks against blue
Pepper sprinkled on the sky
Distant flock of birds.
